Rt 37 Construction

Navigation Bullet Route 37 East Mathis Bridge Construction Notice

October 21, 2016

Please be advised that Route 37 Mathis Bridge over the Barnegat Bay will be closed for its second of three construction cycles beginning Friday, October 28, 2016 at 7 a.m. Beginning Friday morning and continuing into Saturday, the contractor will be preparing the roadway for the winter traffic shift by striping new traffic lanes, placing the temporary lane barrier, and adjusting the location of the Douglas Street traffic signal. During construction, the Tunney Bridge will be converted to one lane eastbound and two lanes westbound.   This upcoming construction cycle will allow the contractor to rehabilitate the bridge operator's house, install the new "candy cane" style warning gates, conduct minor electrical work and continue with bridge work from the center bascule to the west. Be advised, this route will have lane restrictions for over-sized loads and permits should be coordinated with the NJDOT and Ocean County permitting offices.  Vehicles violating this prohibition may be summoned. There will be no Mathis Bridge openings between December 1, 2016 and March 15, 2017 for marine traffic. Route 37 eastbound traffic will resume to its normal configuration for the peak summer season on or about May 12, 2017. Any questions, please contact the Project Community Outreach Team at DOT-Route37Mathis.outreach@dot.nj.govor by phone 732-230-7356. More information is available at http://www.NJCommuter.com  (Click "Construction Updates" - Select "Route 37")

Navigation Bullet ROUTE 37 EAST MATHIS BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION NOTICE

October 21, 2015

Please be advised that Route 37 Mathis Bridge over the Barnegat Bay will be closed for its first construction cycle on or about October 31, 2015 until approximately May 13, 2016. This will allow the contractor to begin the Mathis Bridge deck replacement. Be in the know! Send your email address to DOT-Route37Mathis.outreach@dot.nj.gov and subscribe for project alerts.

During construction, the Tunney Bridge will be converted to 1 lane eastbound and 2 lanes westbound.   Crossover lanes have already been constructed at both approaches to the bridge and utilities have been relocated in advance, including new drainage to accommodate the lane conversion.

This route will have lane restrictions for over-sized loads and permits should be coordinated with the NJDOT and Ocean County permitting offices.

There will be no Mathis Bridge openings between December 1, 2015 until March 15, 2016 for marine traffic.

There are three construction cycles anticipated requiring a full closure of the Mathis Bridge through 2018 while resuming traffic to its normal configuration for the peak summer season each year.

Any questions, please contact the Project Community Outreach Team at
