Lavallette Seniors

In September 1966 a group of citizens met in the Sunday School room of the Faith Lutheran Church under the direction of Pastor Kenneth A. Dorkof. There were 40 persons in attendance. At this meeting, plans were made to form an organization for the senior citizens of the Lavallette area. This stemmed from a meeting held a short time before in the Lavallette Police Station. There were 25-30 people at that meeting.

The first meeting of the club was held in the fire house. The first slate of officers consisted of John Cagni, President; Wanda Tynski, Vice President; Elfreda Schmidt, Treasurer; and Ruth Woods, Recording Secretary. A set of by-laws was printed calling for two meetings per month, on the second and fourth Thursday, except in July and August when there would be one meeting per month.

The first organized trip was a sightseeing bus trip to Washington, D.C. with dinner included. Tickets were $10.50 each. The first Christmas Party was held in 1967 in the fire house.

In September 1972 the Merri-Maids were formed and a year later the bowling league was organized. In 1980 the organization had outgrown the fire house and the meetings were moved to St. Bonaventure Parish Hall.

The name was changed from Senior Citizens of Lavallette Area to Lavallette Seniors, Inc. in 1984.

The Lavallette Seniors celebrated their, 30th anniversary in September 1996.
