HISTORY
- The Friends of the Upper Shores Library organized in the summer of 1995
prior to the opening of the Upper Shores/Lavallette Branch Library. Officers
were installed in October 1995. When the library opened in December 1995, the
Friends organization had a membership of 200. In March 1997, the group received
designation as a publicly supported organization by the Internal Revenue
Service.
MISSION
- The Friends of the Library are citizens who choose to help their local
library. In this role, they perform several important functions:
- Friends serve as a "connecting link" between the library and the
community, interpreting one to the other.
- Friends help supplement the library budget by providing funds for special
programs, equipment, or materials.
- Friends are a source of volunteers whose services extend the role of the
library staff to patrons.
- The vast majority of this work is paid for through your dues, which is tax
deductible.
