One becomes a member of the Union Church of Lavallette by Confession of Faith or Reaffirmation of Faith in Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Saviour. Baptism either as an infant or as an adult is also required.

We offer a number of ways to be a member of the Union Church of Lavallette: first Full Active Member, second, Affiliate Active Member (this allows you to maintain another church membership); and third, Friend of the Union Church of Lavallette (which means that you support Union Church while you are in Lavallette but does not carry voting privileges).

Worship And Fellowship Opportunities At Union Church

We offer a full schedule of services for each and every person. Worship and Sunday School during the fall, winter and spring is at 10:00 a.m. In the summer months (June 23 - Labor Day) there are two services: an Early Service at 8:00 a.m. and Worship with Sunday School and Nursery Care at 10:00 a.m.

At 9:00 a.m. during the school year Confirmation Class is offered by the pastor to those young people preparing for Church Membership.

Our Women's Aid Society, organized before 1916, provides the women of Union Church with fellowship and the opportunity to be of service both to the church and to the wider community. They sponsor fellowship gatherings and projects for the support of the church and local charitable works.

We are beginning a men's group to do the same for the men of the church.

We are hoping to participate in a four church Christian Youth Program that is now in the discussion stage.

Our worship program includes celebration of Holy Communion, a Service of Singing Praise, and a service of Blessing each month. We also have midweek Bible Studies, Christmas Eve, Lenten and Holy Week Services.

We hope that God will you bless as you join us in worship and service.

Our History As A Church

The First Christian Association of Lavallette was established in 1883 as a means of providing worship for the members of Protestant Churches summering in the village. This group met in member's cottages.  In 1910 they incorporated as the Union Church of Lavallette, Inter- Denominational under the laws of the State of New Jersey. We are proud of the fact that our Church has hosted the original services of worship for both the Roman Catholic and Latvian (Lutheran) congregations in Lavallette. In 1930 the Union Church of Lavallette ceased to be a seasonal chapel and became a year round full service congregation. We are united in our witness to the love of God found in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and hold our Christian faith as it is defined in the Apostles Creed.

The History Of Our Building

In 1887 the founding summer families along with the Borough of Lavallette built the main portion of the present sanctuary as a Borough Hall and Sanctuary. It was used by both groups until 1910 when the Union Church purchased the Borough's share of the building.

In the 1920's the growth of the, summer population of Lavallette necessitated the addition of two overflow seating areas in the church building thus creating the cross shaped church building we enjoy today.

Later the entrance vestibule of the church was raised to full tower height and the bell, (which had been rescued from the wreak of a coastal buoy) was hung in it.

In 1951 the educational and fellowship hall and a pastoral apartment, (now the nursery area), was added to the complex.

In 1960 a new parsonage was built on Camden Avenue.

In 1961 the tower was capped by a steeple and cross and the front of the building was brought out around the base of the tower.

In 1994 the church building was resided and the present beautiful stained glass memorial windows were installed.

In 1996 an air-conditioning system was added to the sanctuary to make it more comfortable to worship there every Sunday of the year.
